If you get to see Deadpool & Wolverine, the third outing of Ryan Reynolds’ beloved merc with a mouth, then I have this to say as introduction – perfect!

It is fair to say that for a number of years, since Marvel introduced the idea of the Multiverse to fans, we have been given disappointment after disappointment. Dr. Strange the marvels, even Thor 4. What I witness tonight was the death of 20th century Fox’s franchise of superhero films that began with Tobey Maguire Spider-Man and ended with the disastrous X-Men Dark Phoenix.

It was 20 years in the making and it had epic highs and disastrous lows, but from its death (ironically) a phoenix has risen from the ashes. Deadpool!

Coming fresh into the Marvel cinematic universe, Wade Wilson returns as the iconic antihero Deadpool six years in his timeline after he undid the major deaths of his last film and is now living a relatively simple life selling cars and leaving the red costume behind him.

When the mysterious Mr Paradox of the TVA offers him the opportunity of a lifetime, to join The Avengers, wade is more than eager…until he learns the price.

It seems that Logan‘s death in James Mangold last movie l was an event (in universe) that has caused the collapse of Wade Wilson‘s timeline. Within a matter of days, his entire universe will be gone including all of his close friends and family.

Seeking to save his loved ones, we journeys through the Multiverse to find a Wolverine who can become the new anchor for the universe, which he calls home.

Exciting and hilarious, this adventure sees Wade fighting against the TVA, Cassandra Nova (the secret sister of Charles Xavier), many alternate versions of himself and even (on more than one occasion!) Wolverine (comic accurate size, costume and even at one time played by a famous actor of the DCU).

It’s an exciting Multiverse adventure which has an incredible heart and more than a few fantastic cameos which range from expected, unexpected and most deserving.

Much like his previous films Ryan Reynolds makes you choke with laughter and in this case, it was very much a near death experience for this dear writer as a particularly hilarious battle between the lead and titular actors nearly had me choking on a Deadpool themed cup of coke.

Hugh Jackman might have been done with the Wolverine in 2018 but clearly he had some fight left in him as he took to the screen and owned his role as never before. This felt like a true actualisation of comic book characters come to life and it deserves plenty of praise.

Although that praise should also come with a warning that Wade Wilson is now being introduced into a much more child friendly universe and one that right now he is holding up given the previous failures of other outings and of course the Jonathan majors trial which is setback a significant phase of Marvel movies.

There are also a few times where this film does lean a little too heavily into silliness. There is a great deal of pain in this wolverine size and in his story which could’ve been delve into a lot more. Furthermore Deadpool might be the mouth but that doesn’t mean he has to have 90% of the lines.

That said it was a fantastic outing and one I would have seen off with a resounding round of applause…if my screening hadn’t been filled with cowards.

Bloody, hilarious and downright perfect to character this first time Marvel outing third time Deadpool outing is Ryan Reynolds’s best yet.
