Captain America and Avengers star Anthony Mackie has said that the next big Marvel team-up, Avengers Doomsday, will be reminiscent of previous MCU team-up movies. Avengers Doomsday is currently filming in the UKand expected to continue until late into 2025.

Mackie told IGN at the Twisted Metal season 2 premiere that “everybody’s getting excited, and we’re getting the band back together.” This comes just shy of a month after the casting announcement for the movie was released, showcase an impressive roster of new and returning heroes facing off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Mackie spoke strongly and well of the expectations for next Avengers movie, stating that the experience will be akin of ‘hat old Marvel feeling’. The actor, who plays new Captain America Sam Wilson, also said that he was expecting to begin his filming soon. Mackie also elaborated on his impressions of the movie so fat that, “Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great. I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”

Avengers Doomsday’s impressive cast includes Mackie, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Letitia Wright (Shuri / Black Panther), and Sebastian Stan (Winter Solder) as returning Avengers/Avengers adjacent superheroes. It will also include the full cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts* (minus Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster) and X-Men alums Ian McKellan (Magneto), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Kelsey Grammar (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops).

The next movie in the MCU will be Thunderbolts*, which will conclude Phase 5. It will be followed by The Fantastic Four, which will open Phase 6, with Doomsday shortly following.

Avengers Doomsday will be released in theatres in May 2026.
